I had previously thought about introducing a blog section to this site to reflect any updates to my creative and professional life, but there wasn't anything to write about... until now.
Destiny's Date, the play I wrote in my final quarter at the University of California - Irvine, has found its first life outside of the University of California - Irvine! On select dates from July 12-26, Lyric Repertory in Logan, Utah will be performing a live reading of an abridged version of the play in repertory with a reading of my friend Summer Session-Plevney's play, Do You Trust Me? The readings for both will be performed as part of Lyric Rep's interACT series under the direction of Herb Newsome.
I knew the play had potential when my UC Irvine classmates reacted so positively to what I had written for the class the play was developed for. My friend and classmate Leah Jackson even selected it to direct a reading for in our class together the following quarter (which can be viewed here!). But little did I know that it resonated so deeply with my other friend and classmate Summer Session-Plevney, to the point where she brought the script to Lyric Rep two years later! I have nothing but gratitude to Summer, Herb, and everyone involved at Lyric Rep for giving Destiny's Date a chance and a platform, and I'm excited to be flying to Utah to see their take on it!
